Uh, What?!

Hola!

Its me, again. So I was laying in bed last night when a re-run of the BET Awards came on. Then I remembered Trey Songz's acceptance speech for an award he won for his song, "Neighbors Know My Name". As you can imagine, "Neighbors Know My Name" isn't a song about him hosting a neighborhood watch. It's about sex. But get this, the first thing that Trey said was, "I wanna thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for blessing me...blah blah blah"

um, WHAT?!?!

So I'm thinking, "Yo Trey, did you want to thank your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ before or after the neighbors knew your name?" Cause frankly I'm confused. But this got me thinking, how many times does God bless us, but we manipulate the blessing and misuse them to our own selfish desires? Okay yes, trey is blessed with his (very)good looks and his (sometimes)good voice, but does he actually think that God blessed him with those things so that he can make music about the neighbors knowing his name or, my personal favorite title, "panty droppa"? lol I mean seriously. Don't get me wrong, I like some of his music, but i'm like don't credit the Lord for blessings that you misused to promote the work of  "evil". That would be like me winning the lotto and saying thank you Lord for blessing me to win the lotto. Um, no because gambling is a sin!

Every breath, every heartbeat, every step is a blessing. We are beyond blessed, but to take those, manipulate them, and use them to do everything but glorify God is like a slap in the face. I mean think about it. Some of us are blessed with perfect health, but we destroy that by drinking, smoking, and having sex with whomever. Some of us are blessed with the ability to captivate emotions and thoughts with music, but we manipulate that to talk about drugs, money, cars, clothes, and hoes. How many times has God blessed us, and we took the blessing, stomped all over it, and promoted evil with it? How many times have we cried out to God, begging him to bless us, to help us, and then when he does, we spit in his face?

P.S. no this does not classify as a Jesus Juke

  1. There is a term out there called "Christian Athies" that refers to such people. People who claim to live for Christ, but that do the exact opposite of biblical teachings. Loved this post!!! And you crack me up!
